    Lateral Lumbar Vertebrae

    LS Spine Lateral

    L-Spine Lat View

X-Ray Lumbar Spine Lateral view is a side-view radiographic image of the lumbar spine. It shows lumbar vertebrae L1–L5, intervertebral disc spaces, vertebral bodies, spinous processes, and spinal alignment. This view is used to detect disc space narrowing, spondylolisthesis, fractures, osteoporosis, and degenerative changes.

    Includes 4 Test Parameters

  • Technique

Lateral radiographic projection of the lumbar spine.

  • Purpose

To evaluate disc space narrowing, spondylolisthesis, and vertebral body integrity.

  • Area Covered

Side profile of the lumbar vertebrae and lumbosacral junction.

  • Key Clinical Point

The best view for identifying "slippage" of one vertebra over another (spondylolisthesis).

  • Includes Test 5 Parameters

It is the best view for seeing "slipped discs" (spondylolisthesis) and narrowed disc spaces.

It is a condition where one vertebra slides forward over the one below it, which is clearly visible from the side.

While it doesn’t see the nerve, it shows if a bone or disc space is likely pressing on the sciatic nerve.

The technician may ask you to hold your breath for a second to prevent the movement of your abdomen from blurring the image.

Yes, it clearly shows bone spurs and thinning of the disc cushions that happen as we age.
