    Also Known As:

    Thoracic Spine Lateral

    D-Spine Lat

    T-Spine Side View

    Mid-Back X-Ray Lateral

    Lateral Thoracic Radiograph

X-Ray Dorsal Spine Lateral View is a diagnostic imaging test used to examine the dorsal (thoracic) spine from the side view. This X-ray helps doctors evaluate the alignment of thoracic vertebrae, disc spaces, spinal curvature, and detect fractures, infections, degeneration, or other spine abnormalities. The procedure is quick, painless, and usually completed within a few minutes.

    Includes 4 Test Parameters

  • Technique

Lateral (side-view) radiographic projection of the thoracic spine.

  • Purpose

To visualize vertebral body height, disc spaces, and detect compression fractures.

  • Area Covered

The dorsal (thoracic) spine from a lateral perspective.

  • Key Clinical Point

Highly effective for identifying kyphosis (abnormal curvature) and degenerative changes.

  • Includes Test 5 Parameters

The side view is the best way to see the natural curve of the middle back and check for compressed vertebrae.

Yes, it can show "wedge fractures" or loss of bone density which are common signs of osteoporosis in the mid-back.

You will lie on your side or stand sideways with your arms moved forward to clear the view of the spine.

These are the gaps between your vertebrae where cushions (discs) sit; narrowing can indicate wear and tear.

If you are pregnant, you must inform the staff. Abdominal shielding or alternative tests may be required.
